Vehicle description

1957 Morris Minor 1000
VIN/Chassis Number FBP41489494
Engine Number H48242
I have owned the car for a year. It had not run for 10 years and not driven for 20 years. The person from which I purchased the car had three old cars. To buy the one I wanted I had to purchase all three. I have been busy with other projects but I finally got around the this one. I believe the mileage of 61,874 to be correct. I have not driven the car on the road. When the previous owner purchased the car in 1982, it had 54,023 miles. He documented every fuel purchase. It now runs well and stops very poorly. The engine sounds good. Because of the brakes, I have not driven it out of the driveway. The car was painted the original color in the 70’s. At that time the seats were recovered and it was carpeted with period bound sculptured shag. It definitely has the 70’s vibe.
Body
It is yellow/old English ivory which is the original color. It was painted with typical enamel of the time. There is superficial rust in areas as seen in the photos. There are no perforations. There are multiple small scratches as expected. I see no evidence of crash repair. There is some rust in the frame but it is not structural. The passenger front frame rail has a repair as seen in the photos. It is a mystery to me. The floor pans look good. I’m not an expert but they do not look replaced or repaired. The firewall has not been painted and is the original color. From what I understand, yellow was not an option. So, you can be the judge. Maybe it is the yellow side of Old English White.
Interior
The interior is yellow vinyl and recovered in the 70’s. There are no rips or tears. There is a tear in the headliner. The dash has not been repainted. The fuel gauge works. Right turn signal down not work but the left does. The carpet is sculptured shag that is unusual but pretty cool. Someone has spent a lot of time custom fitting it. Engine #H48242
The engine is original. It starts easily and runs well. I have not noticed significant smoke. It idles fine. The oil and filter have been changed. The plugs are new NGK. The SU carburetor has been rebuilt. Radiator was flushed. The gas tank was drained and the fuel was not rusty. It has a new SU fuel pump.
Transmission
It shifts well with no grinding if the clutch is completely disengaged. The linkage should be adjusted a bit more.
The brakes are very poor. The flex lines/hoses have been replaced. The master cylinder was cleaned and honed with parts replaced. The wheel cylinders will need a rebuild. The brakes on these cars were always poor but this is worse. The car should not be driven until properly repaired.
Tires have good tread but they are very old period 4 ply. They hold air but can’t be trusted on the road.
I have several boxes of used parts that go with the car. In addition, I have a complete engine and transmission that was removed from a friend’s running car. He converted his to a Subaru .
In general, this is a solid Morris Minor 1000 that is a time capsule from the 70’s. I know the history since 1982. I do have records from the previous owner. It is always stored in shop since I’ve owned the car. The prior owner purchased the car in 1982. It was garaged during his ownership.
I don’t like to sell anything especially cars. I do the best I can with photos that are hopefully accurate with honest descriptions. Please ask any question. Ideally the future buyer should inspect the car before purchase. The car is sold “as is/where is” without warranty. It can be driven to the trailer but it should not be on the road until the brakes are repaired. I will assure that the buyer will have more information about the car than I was told prior to my purchase. I have taken many photos that can be viewed on Photo Bucket. I will send the link if requested . I require a $300 Pay Pal deposit within 24 hours of the auction end. I will not ship but I will assist the loading. Car will be picked up within 2 weeks of purchase. I have a clear Kansas antique title. The shipping cost will be paid by the buyer. Thank you for your interest.
