1998 second generation Ford Explorer 4x4. 4 All-terrain tires -worry free for at least another 3 years or 30,000 miles. Tire size: 31X10.5R15LT. Off road ready. It"s a very good daily driver or adventure SUV~

4.0 L Cologne OHV V6 engine (vin X), 5-speed 5R55E automatic transmission (the 1997 Explorer was the first American vehicle equipped with 5-speed auto transmission, instead of the transitional 4-speed). Very smooth engine and transmission. 4-door with tailgate.
The selectable automatic ControlTrac four wheel drive system with electric two-speed dual range transfer case featuring three drive modes: auto, 4WD high, and 4WD low.
4-wheel ABS disc brake. Dual front air bag. Cruise control.
Suspension system: front torsion bars, back multi-leave spring with 4 shock absorbers. LED high-mount stop lamp. Keyless entry (key fob with active alarm), power window and lock.
Hot heater, cold A/C.
Clean interior after I fixed up a lot with used parts (missing and lose door trim, broken door handle, linkages). But the center console is not original. It"s still a good drink holder and arm rest though.
all electrical in working order. but 2 minor things,
1)rear wiper(you can hear the motor spin, but the linkage or gear broke or misplace)
2)and drive front door unlock switch not working (but you can reach out to passenger side to unlock doors with car running. Key fob when car is off). It"s not the computer, relay, fuse, or the door switch. But somewhere the wire after the lock switch broke.
Service history available. Starter just a few years, new battery before my manager sold it to me (engine performance and doors in rather bad shape before I fixed them.).
New parts I just put in (I am an ASE certified mechanic, it"s a buy and sell car):
White LED headlight
white LED dome light, truck light, and map lamp
all 6 spark plugs and coil wires
Idle air control
EGR
Cruise control switch
thermostat and gasket
all new radiator upper and lower, and water pump bypass hose
valve cover gasket
upper and lower intake gasket
air filter
fuel filter
wiper blade
transfer case fluid, coolant, power steering, and brake fluid
Service I performed:
parking brake adjust
rear disc brake resurfaced (all 4 wheel brake pads like new)
all four brakes gravity bleed
intake port and valve cleaning
No leaks on differential or transmission. after power wash, only on oil pan"s crank front and back seal has slight leaks (less than 1 quart for over 500 miles)
Passed smog on 2-16-2018 (you have 90 days from then to register), but check engine light will come on after about 30 miles city drive, or when idle after about 70 highway drive (only 2 codes, P0174 and 171, lean bank 2 on first, soon followed by bank 1). After extensive test and repair. I think it"s bank 2 has very minor burned valve, or push rod wear so valve close too soon or open too late. (I would do compression or leak-down test, but it"s impossible to hood up the spark plug hole in my case. New spark plugs (bank 2"s were bad, misfire code before too). I used smog machine tail pipe probe at the radiator neck -head gasket is good. I did lower and upper intake, fuel injectors swap and resistant test, all about 15 ohms, same power imbalance, and lean.)
If you are concerned after future emission test, the car is qualified for no smog, NV DMV classic rod license plate:
