Vehicle description

This is one of 1169 Acheiva SCX cars produced in 1992, one of 196 in this color and package. The SCX was Oldsmobile"s homologated race car for 1992, and it was very successful. Those who know these cars understand that the 190 hp Quad 4 and the Getrag close ratio non-overdrive 5 speed manual with special "racing" and concentric slave clutch, coupled to the limited slip 3.91 front differential, made these cars exceptionally quick. Sitting on top of factory adjustable racing suspension and riding on special 15" "racing" wheels, these cars were known to take out all competition, including new Corvettes and modified street racing Acuras. These cars won the 1992 IMSA Firehawk Manufacturer"s and Driver"s championships.
It seems that for as many of these cars as were raced away, many more were driven and enjoyed by Oldsmobile performance enthusiasts. This is one of those cars. It has never been raced or modified in any way. The original owner was a collector and driver of Oldsmobile cars, and purchased this car new in Seattle, Washington as his daily driver. He did drive the car until about 2003, when he sold it in favor of a new 88LSS. The purchaser of the car was also an Oldsmobile Quad 4 enthusiast, and had plans to drive this car daily, as well. He stated to me that he drove the car home and then to his own race shop, and that the car performed beautifully throughout the trip - the factory adjustable suspension working properly, and the A/C even blowing cold. Since the HO Quad 4 calls for head gasket service at 100,000 mile intervals, the new owner set out to complete the service in his own, well equipped race shop. During the service, he broke a fuel inlet line, and decided that he would finish the project another day. That day never came.
The car sat in his race shop for about 15 years, untouched except by dust. He sold the car to me about two years ago, and I put it in the garage right beside my other Oldsmobile cars and projects. I had plans to remove and freshen the motor and transaxle, as well as providing any other service 15 years of sitting might require, and to drive and enjoy the car. After two years of collecting dust in my garage, and seeing medical and other conditions arise in my family, it is clear that I will not be giving the car the attention that it needs anytime soon, so I am offering it to the next Oldsmobile Enthusiast to service and enjoy.
Note that the car is not running at this time. The previous owner was adamant that with a replacement fuel line, a very small bit of reassembly, and some fresh fluids, it would start right up and go. How you choose to service it at this time is up to you. I can tell you that everything I have examined and touched to date gives that exact impression, although it is possible that in storage, the car has developed a crack in the aluminum oil pan - you"ll want to more closely examine every system before any attempted start-up. Before parking 17 years ago, the tires were brand new, the brakes had been serviced, and the car really needed nothing.
Since the car has always been garaged and stored inside, the paint, body and interior are in very-above-average condition. The paint shows moderate wear associated with 10 years of careful driving. There is one spot on the lower right portion of the front bumper which shows the greatest imperfection. There is one small ding in the top of the right front fender which apparently happened in the race shop - this spot has no paint damage, and will easily be corrected. The interior is in great shape, with the exception of the elbow spot of the driver"s door panel (as pictured), and the original driver"s floor mat is worn. All of the seats, carpets, other mats, dash and plastics in the car look very good. The headliner is in great condition.
The underside of the car looks about as good as the topside. It is clean, shiny, the right colors, and rust free. The original dual high-flow exhaust is in great shape. All four original 15" "race" wheels are in excellent condition.
There are certainly not many examples of stock and original SCX W41 Achieva"s out in the wild anymore, and there are certainly not many in this kind of physical condition. It is well worth the time, effort and expense to get it back on the road. I sincerely hope you will get the wake-up work done and enjoy this car at least as much as I would have!
Please bid to buy - I do not have a reserve on this car. Feel free to ask all questions before you bid. Send me a note and I"ll send specific pictures, at your request. If you send a telephone number, I"ll gladly call you. When you become the winning bidder, please send a deposit of at least $500 within 24 hours, or simply pay the whole total at your discretion. If you will be meeting with me to pay for the car, cash is very acceptable. Also, please have a plan in place to retrieve the car within three weeks of the auction close, and communicate that plan to me. If you run into a problem with that time frame, just simply stay in communication with me. I will gladly work with your shipper, help you load, and maybe even meet you somewhere nearby with the car if that is a help to you.
Thank you for taking a look!
