Vehicle description
This 1988 Volvo DL Sedan was restored and partially rebuilt in 2010 by the respected Volvo specialist David Samuels (The Wagonmeister) in Palmdale. We bought the car early in 2010. We are the second owners. The original owner put most of the miles on it on the freeway, driving back and forth from Central California to Southern California. Since our purchase miles have been on Freeway and highway as a daily commuter car.
The list of items we had repaired or restored in this car in 2010 is too long to enumerate here, but highlights include:
*Complete suspension renewal, including Urethane bushings and KYB shocks. Suspension is still tight and refined, and should be for the rest of the car"s life. Car handles as if on rails, much more like a good European sedan should feel on the road than it was when new.
*Crankshaft check and new motor mounts
*Timing belt, tensioner and water pump
*Distributor repair/replace
*Alternator and power-steering pump bushings
*Drive belts (since replaced again)
*Fully rebuilt interior, better now than factory, with high-quality leather, fabric and new carpets throughout as shown. Still in superb condition. Coco mats as shown.
*Swing-down front-seat arm-rest.
More recently, since the rebuild/restoration the following items have been repaired or replaced:
*New transmission valve-body in about 2013
*New in-dash blower fan. This is a very expensive job, and now the fan should be good for another 30 years.
*AC repair and recharge. AC blows cold even on hot days.
*Recent Kenwood Radio/CD player. Blue-Tooth installed and USB compatible. New in-door speakers. Sound is good.
*New windshield-wiper pump. Windshield fluid sprays up well.
*Recent battery.
*Tires are good, with many miles left.
Car has been serviced locally throughout our ownership by Leo and his crew at Signal Hill Foreign Auto Service, Volvo Specialists.
The car is running perfectly, everything works as far as we are aware. It"s driven every day, in all conditions. I get about 25 MPG on average. Cooling system is perfect. Recent oil-change and overall safety-check came up clean. Leo has said it"s among the nicest 240s he has ever seen.
Car has just been fully detailed and is ready for a new, loving owner. Maintain it properly and it"ll easily give another 300K miles of service or more.
I would not hesitate to drive the car across the country at this point.
