Before buying a Boxster, please research IMS bearing failures. (Google "ims failure") These cars are as reliable as Toyota, BUT they have one weakness, the intermidiate shaft bearing (IMS) can fail at any time causing catastrophic destruction of your engine. * if the part has not been updated, you"re driving a ticking time bomb *
It"s a $4000 fix.
The previous owner proactively had the IMS bearing replaced at 47000km in 2011, and since the: clutch, rear main seal, and flywheel must be removed to get to the IMS, they were smartly replaced as well. (Have supporting paperwork)
I am the second owner of this car and I don"t want to see it go, but we recently leased a lakeside site which allows me the only thing I desire more than a Porsche . .a boat !. .(trades anyone?)
My Boxster was serviced at Pfaff and Oakville Porsche, original purchase invoice and pertinent service records included, as well as original manuals in Porsche leather pouch. This car sold for 83000$ in 2001.
Battery replaced @ 57998km
Brake fluid replaced @ 44030km
Never winter driven, stored indoors, car covered while outside in summer, (cover included) I don"t even drive it in the rain. Have Carproof and UCDA Autocheck copies, no accidents, unmodified, all original car. Not a dent, not a scratch, perfect.
Added "aux input" cable to use iPhone, mp3, etc. Also included is a Jabra Freeway Bluetooth speakerphone.
Just changed oil, oil filter, engine air filter, and cabin filter.I can offer tools and instructions to DYI if interested.
The oil capacity is double in this car, (almost 10l) and recommended oil changes are 24000km! ! This one has been done every 10000km with synthetic.
New top quality tires have about 1500km on them, never spun.
Brakes almost new as well.
Stone guard protector installed when new, still looks new.
The car"s exterior and interior are amazing. It drives great, idles smooth. Everything works perfectly. It"s practically showroom condition.
