Vehicle description
Designo Platinum Magno (matte-finish) 2018 Mercedes-Benz G550 4x4² with 710 Black Dinamica w/ Diamond Stitching. This G550 4X4² is one of a handful imported into the US, and it has been lovingly been cared for by one owner. What started as a concept to improve the G-Class for tough terrain ended up resulting in the most-collectible version to-date.
Compared to a normal 2018 Geländewagen, the 4X4² has a stiffer frame as a starting point. It needed to because each corner has dual coil-over suspension. It is also the only G-Class to ever be equipped with portal axles. These military-grade differentials were borrowed from the legendary Unimog, the go-anywhere beast built for the German army.
Because the axles have gear-reduction at each corner, it allows the 37” tires t o use the most of the engine’s power. The twin-turbo V8 makes 416 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. It has 3 locking differentials and an amazing automatic transmission. It is 8” taller, but the view is amazing up here. I honestly thought I would keep this one forever, but there is another baby on the way and sacrifices must be made.
