One of very few custom painted Trueno themed and rebadged Scion FRS to Toyota 86 on the planet.
The Toyota 86 is known as the 1983-1987 (Toyota Corolla GT-S in the states, Sprinter Trueno and Corolla Levin in Japan) AE86’s spiritual successor. What made the AE86 vehicle special was it’s lightweight, rear wheel drive platform and high revving 4A-GE engine with 5 speed manual transmission and how easily modifiable it was. The new Toyota 86 continues with the same high revving rear wheel drive lightweight formula.
This build was inspired by the more recognizable Sprinter Trueno version made popular by the Japanese Anime series Initial-D. Specific Tuners will appreciate the thoughtfulness of the throwback vintage of the 80’s and will instantly recognize this car is inspired from the original AE86.
This vehicle has been very well maintained during my ownership and I personally maintained the vehicle. Oil changed religiously with Amsoil synthetic 0W-20 at regular service intervals with Toyota oil filters. I don’t race. The car has not been put through the paces. I modify for the fun and the bonding aspect with like minded people. This car has been treated very well.
Fresh Motul Gear 300 75W90 replaced at 60k in gearbox and rear differential.
New lightweight wheels and summer Bridgestone RE-71 tires with 2” wheel spacers. Comes with the stock wheels and snow tires as well.
The car is lowered with Tein springs. The stock suspension is very good from the factory in my opinion. The rear has white line adjustable LCA’s to help dial in the rear camber. Car has good alignment.
The body has been outfitted with an aftermarket TRD style body kit (front lip, side skirts, rear valence and carbon fiber spoiler) and painted to match the car. Roof vortex generator and carbon fiber fender garnish help with aerodynamics and looks.
Recent maintenance:
New Toyota battery. New AEM fuel pump to run E85 which the car currently is tuned to use with an open flash tablet that is included with car.
A new ACT six puck clutch with light weight flywheel and braided slave cylinder clutch line has been installed with future power upgrades in mind. Perrin shifter bushings and upgraded shifter springs help with the shifter feel as well as a Verus/Velox upgraded transmission fork. The car is a little quirky with the six puck, but it engages seamlessly and is butter smooth. I will provide the stock clutch and flywheel as they are still good. The throw out bearing was replaced as well and was the main reason the clutch needed replaced.
New Denso iridium spark plugs recently installed roughly at 68-69k miles.
The car is also outfitted with the JDM steering wheel and door handles to add a little more red in the cabin and more JDM goodness. A Cusco drift button and heel-toe pedal were upgraded with intention of being able to put the car sideways.
The car was repainted in September 2018. The car had a minor fender bender winter 2017 and I hopped a curb damaging the driver side rocker panel. I replaced the fender and bumper with new genuine Toyota/Subaru parts and had a local guy custom paint most of the car and pull the rocker panel out. The hood, roof and trunk are still original. The body work/parts/ paint far exceed the price of doing this yourself if you were to do the same and is reflective of a modest price increase and value to the car. Some will argue it lessens it. Don’t buy it then. It’s not a classic. It costs money to do this.
The body has no dents. There are a few scratches on the rear bumper from my garage door scraping against it while I was working on the car in the middle of last winter. The car has markings on the trunk lid from where I had a SARD style spoiler on it. The ECU is not programmed to accept 91-93 pump gas currently. It can be flashed with the Open Flash Tablet to run regular gas, but the default is set to E85. If you were to unmarry the car it will need to run E85 or you will need to reflash the ECU with a tactrix cable and software. I can provide the tactrix cable as well. I don’t want to mess with it. I prefer running E85 for the performance benefit.
Engine is sound and solid. It sits parked in my garage and has been garaged since I took ownership in 2016. I have put on less than 1500 miles in the last year and a half. It’s ready for showtime. I just had it professionally detailed inside and out and I don’t plan on driving it. It’s ready for the next owner to take the keys in every way possible.
I get tons of compliments on this car in person so don’t let the haters detract you from buying. Google Trueno FRS or 86 and you will see this is an awesome theme for this car. It should have been a special edition.
