Hi, up for auction is my 2004 SL500 Hardtop Convertible with the AMG Appearance Package. This is great daily driver, she runs like a top and handles great. I will list below everything I know about her, the good, and the bad. I will do my best to be as critical as possible, as you can see by my feedback. I do sell things and I am an honest seller. This is special as it"s my spare car so I"m not an expert on selling cars. But here we go:
The Bad (in my opinion)
The body has several clear-coat issues - no dents, just clear-coat flaking and scratches as she is a daily driver. She is not a garage queen and has normal wear and tear. I have added clear photos of the clear-coat and problem areas so you know what you are buying. She is what I believe is called a 10 footer . . looks great from 10 feet away but you can see her wear as you get closer.
The car has a salvage NJ Title. The vehicle was in a flood in 2012 and was completely repaired and titled that year. The title shows a mileage variance , I am assuming because a new gauge cluster was installed and the mileage was not programmed back then. I t has been titled for almost 10 years since the repairs were done and there do not seem to be any issues from that. this allows you to buy a really cool daily driver for about 40% off compared to the market. I did request to include a n AutoCheck report with this listing so you know exactly what her history is.
She has an O2 sensor warning - this does not affect the running or driving of the car, just being as thorough as I can be fro everyone.
The Center Console wood trim has a chip and crack in it as pictured. I have a new piece for that in bubble wrap that will go with the car. I"m not a mechanical guy and I haven"t had time to have my mechanic swap them out so it goes with the car.
The Grill has some cracks above the emblem. I meant to grab a new one but forgot. It works fine, but could use replacing to make it look better.
I just got a light that my passenger side headlight is out. I"m not sure what that entails but as I"m selling the car I"m willing to negotiate on the price of a set of new light bulbs - I know it"s not major, just want to mention all the things I can think of.
The driver"s side storage compartment is a little loose and I pop it open with my leg all the time when I drive. I also pictured that on the drivers inside door pic.
These cars did not have Bluetooth or wireless connectivity so I have been using a dongle that plugs in the cigarette lighter. It works great and I pair my iPhone for music, GPS, etc. The sound is quite good from the stock Bose system.
The Good (also in my opinion)
She is driven regularly with no issues and has current NJ Inspection.
All the big scary things work as they should and when needed have been replaced. The top works great, quickly and quietly up and down with no leakage issues. I bought a new hydraulic pump and had it installed, new pistons and hoses in late 2019 and it"s great. In case you are wondering, the pump was about $2300 from Mercedes of Newton.
I also replaced the pneumatic (vacuum) pump which controls the soft close trunk, door locks, and some other vacuum controlled bits. The pump was $900 from Mercedes of Scottsdale. That was done is summer of 2020.
I have upgraded her to the AMG style and think they really improve the look of the car. The 5 spoke AMG rims and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires were installed last summer. They have less than 500 miles on them and they are ridiculously nice. All the rims with matching tires are shown in pictures above as well. They are in excellent condition.
I upgraded both batteries. Yes, these have 2 lol. The consumer battery in the trunk controls essentially all aspects of the car except for starting it. Summer of 2019 I had a top of the line gel battery installed and it"s been great. I also had a DieHard Gold starting battery installed 2 weeks ago and it has a 3 year warranty. They work exactly as they should.
She runs like a top, starts on the first key turn. The transmission shifts as it should. Smooth when accelerating moderately and with a little attitude when you get on it.
The ABC or Active Body Control Suspension works as it should. I had the system checked and tested last year. My mechanic installed new ride sensors in the rear just to be safe and it performed perfectly on the rodeo test. ( Factory techs can make the car go up and down by each wheel remotely like a low rider car. It"s pretty wild to watch.) It works great, fluids checked and topped off and needs no service that I am aware of.
That"s all I know about Scarlett (yes, I call her Scarlett). Local pickup is obviously available , I have title in hand. If you wish to have it shipped , I can help with whatever shipper you choose but I have no idea how to make that happen.
