Car & Driver described the Infiniti G35 Coupe when it debuted alongside the Nissan 350Z in April 2003 as “ beautiful, powerful, comfortable, luxurious, and capable . . a great all-around sporting coupe . . We can"t imagine any car lover being unaffected by the G35"s classic coupe profile. Its voluptuously tapered cab, perfectly proportioned atop its muscular lower body, defines the coupe essence. We never tired of looking at it, and judging by the comments of passersby, neither did anyone else.”
This excellent example of a premium luxury sports car was my 18-year-old son’s first car. Like his father an enthusiast (my daily driver is a 2004 Pontiac GTO and my weekend toy is a 1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible), he’s moved on to a 1996 Camaro Z28 Convertible. So, the Infiniti needs a new home with a driver who will enjoy and take as good care of it as my son and I. The 3.5L V-6 runs smoothly and strong; we’ve been treating it with zMAX micro-lubricant (which I used religiously in all my vehicles. The five-speed automatic shifts crisply and has the auto-stick feature where you can run through the gears manually. The car sports a new set of Cooper tires filled with nitrogen. We upgraded to Discitalia slotted/drilled rotors and ceramic pads and refinished the calipers in red; the stopping power is superb. We also installed a K&N air filter element. The interior is in excellent condition for a 14-year-old car and has very minor wear. We upgraded the sound system with a JVC receiver with CD player and Bluetooth (the steering wheel controls are not connected, however).
The exterior is finished in a beautiful three-stage white pearl coat. We replaced the rear bumper cover after a minor fender-bender and had the front bumper cover refinished. We also refinished the painted aluminum wheels ourselves; they look nice but if you really want to spruce up the appearance a set of aftermarket rims would be well-worth the investment. We had the headlamp lenses refinished and UV-coated.
Essentially a luxury version of a Nissan 350Z with four seats, this mostly-factory-stock first-edition Infiniti coupe is fun to drive. It handles like the true sports car it is and has plenty of power (with a nice exhaust note, too!). Keep it stock or modify it to your heart’s content, as there are numerous performance and handling upgrades you can make with aftermarket parts.
