Vehicle description
2002 Toyota Camry - relisted due to non-paying bidder. Folks, bear in mind if you don"t live near Charlotte NC, you need to have a way to come and get the car. Thanks.
Four door. Four Cylinder. Second owner. Well maintained 263,500 miles (still being driven regularly so it may have a few more miles on it. In true spaghetti Western fashion, I will attempt to describe this car in terms of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
The Good It’s a Toyota and it’s a Camry, one of the most durable, reliable cars ever made. Still averages 26 mpg. Well maintained. Purchased May, 2013 with 172k as a new college graduate’s first ride. Many new parts and regular oil changes. Four new Continental tires at 226K. All the electrics work, the windows go up and down, the A/C blows nice and cold and it rides smoother than my Avalon on the highway. Radio works. Clean NC Title - no liens.
Major Part Replacements February, 2014 replaced catalytic convertor and two oxygen sensors August 2015 – new five year battery May, 2016 replaced valve cover gasket, air filter, 4 new platinum spark plugs October 2016 – replaced alternator – 4 new Continental tires February 2017 – replaced starter April 2017 – new front brakes May 2018 – alignment and fuel injector cleaning.
The Bad We replaced the catalytic convertor because the PO420 code was on (“Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold”). Our NC county has strict emissions rules and the car would not pass the emissions inspection. Three months later the check engine light was back on and the same code was showing. So, every year we had to get the car tuned up for a minimum of $200 under state law in order to get an inspection waiver. The car would pass the emissions test, but flunk for having the check engine light on. Anyhow, the light is still on and the car really needs a home (like South Carolina) where the inspection standards are not so strict. The car still averages over 26 mpg and uses some oil (which may cause the light to stay on) but the engine runs very well.
The driver’s side front door will no longer open. It is likely the connecting rods between the latches which will require the panel to be removed from the inside, a pain-in-the-neck, but it can be done. There are over a dozen suitable Camrys on our local Pull-A-Part salvage yard if door parts are needed. Currently, you can get a short yoga workout moving from the passenger seat to the driver’s seat after entering through the passenger door.
The trim between the passenger front window and the windshield is loose and held together by the handyman’s best friend: duct tape.
Small chip in the windshield (not on the driver’s side) The Ugly
The paint has got a lot of scratches but it still looks decent from twenty feet. Big ding on the rear driver side near the tail light. No rust but the paint is old. Upholstery is in good shape but could use a shampoo. Non-smoking driver. The usual dings and divots of a sixteen year old car that was not garaged.
This is a solid car and is good commuter ride. No warranties are implied or expressed and the car is sold as is, where is. Clean NC title with no liens.
