Vehicle description
2002 Mazda Protege5 hatchback for the collector/hobbyist. Those who know, know. This car is fun to drive, and built to last.
Original clutch, 5-speed manual transmission, and engine w/ 141,000 miles, mostly city driving. Rear wiper/defrost, newer pads/rotors/rear calipers (2012 @ 122,000) and tires (2010 @ 113,000). The engine, systems, and transmission are all in awesome shape-starts up and blows hot even on -5 F mornings, and AC runs clean and cool in the summer. Engine temp is stable in all conditions, no oil leaks or fluid problems. Still has a lot of zip, and handles well, we have averaged just about 5,000 miles/year since 2010.
This particular vehicle has lived in Minnesota, Maryland, and now Wisconsin, and the rear end fender rust that seems to hit the 2002 Protege5 has definitely taken hold. Rear driver"s fender has it worst, significantly rusted/deteriorated. Hood has lost clear coat and paint, small rust spots. A fair amount of body dings, as well, but the door and side panels are generally in good shape. At least 1, possibly 2 of the door lock actuators are shot. We have all maintenance records since purchase in 2006, plus owner"s manuals.
More than happy to send or post additional photos or add the engine or chassis number, just ask!
PLEASE NOTE: the reason we are selling it is that our mechanic advised that rust has hit the unibody, and advised against keeping it for safety reasons. We are selling for parts, or as a project car for someone who can/wants to make the investment in unibody repair. If you live in a state that requires pre-registration inspection, this car likely WILL NOT PASS.
