YouTube: 2000 Honda Prelude with TWO ENGINES The car was bought wrecked, repaired, driven for a few thousand miles, then parked and slowly converted into a street legal twin engine car for a senior project at Oregon Tech. The work was aided by 3D design software and performed by mechanical engineers, a certified welder, and inspected by a certified welding inspector. The weight is around 3,600 lbs and it will do 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds. It is really fun to drive! Once the build was done, the car was driven with both original and unmodified engines operating in sync for a few more thousand validation miles. At first, there were cooling and syncing issues, but were carefully monitored and resolved with better coolers, and a different shifting strategy which involved connecting both inputs of the original controllers together such that they process the information simultaneously. The car has sat through many hours of stop and go traffic as well as prolonged driving on the highway. All maintenance was performed in a residential garage such as timing belt, water pump, seals, and gaskets. I will be honest, the issues include double the maintenance and fuel costs, a noisy power steering belt at cold startup, when tightened, the power steering pump makes noise, headlamp bulb needs replaced, rear engine timing belt or water pump has not been replaced and it is probably due, fuel pumps are ford inline pumps and are noisy and may not be the right pressure/volume, fuel tank is functional but should be replaced with a certified tank, low ground clearance, cheap tachometer for the rear engine sometimes looses connection with the temp sensors, the check engine lamp for the rear engine has not been installed though the two wires are there, sometimes the battery and brake lights flicker on the cluster, it has been doing this before the makeover and never investigated, the stock mufflers were rotated and the exhaust pipes come in contact with the rear sway bar sometimes creating a clunking noise, the springs were cut, tips flattened and bent so they can sometimes make noise when they rub against the rubber pad they push against. Some wetting of the pan but no fluid leaks on the ground. For sale due to work relocating me to another state and I can’t bring the car with me.
