Vehicle description
1999 Chevrolet Malibu 123xxx miles. Car sat for 2 years and then was given to me. I got it back running great, then on Christmas day, disaster. It blew the cam head gasket and leaked all the oil into the spark plug wells. It cut off while driving, had it towed home. When it got home, it started right back up but with a "ping" in the top end. Oil was added and it was allowed to run for about 5 minutes but the noise didn"t seem to dampen. That is when the gasket was discovered. Removed the ignition coil(at least I think that"s what it is called) and saw all the oil in the spark plugs and could see where oil had been leaking out of the cam head gasket seal. At this point, I left it. Nothing else I could do for it. Someone with a motor stand and the time to fiddle with it can have a great car! At present the car isn"t running. The battery is newer, but needs to be charged. I accidentally left key in on position for a few days, I charged the battery and it tested good before reinstalling and my child leaving the key on again after moving the car. Also I didn"t put the ignition coil back on or the air intake, they are currently sitting with the car just not attached.
The car may drive off with charged battery and everything reinstalled, I just haven"t tried.
I just put 2 brand new front tires on the car! They have less than 1000 miles on them. Also just replaced one of the front rotors, less than 500 miles on it and new brake pads (front). Rear brakes were replaced back in July when car was given to me.
