Vehicle description
This sale is for a 1996 Volvo 960 Wagon
173,000 Miles
This is the last in the line of the traditional rear wheel drive Volvos going back half a century. This went on for two more years and then Volvo went to an all front wheel or all wheel drive system.
The exterior color is silver and the interior is a matching silver leather with full power seats and windows and all other options (except heated seats).
Engine is the 2.9 litre straight 6 (only in volvo"s lineup for a very short time), mated to a rear wheel drive automatic transmission.
Stereo has radio as well as CD and Cassette - all are working - I replaced the original head unit with a 100% working one.
So you have massive cargo capacity as well as room for a family plus towing ability if needed, but it drives like a BMW or Mercedes.
I have owned the car for over three years having purchased it from a dealer in Baton Rouge - previous to me it was owned in Mississippi - the car was purchased with a clean Carfax certification.
Items repaired or replaced during my ownership include:
New battery last year. Repaired interior drivers door handle. Repaired front fog lamps/new relay. Replaced front bottom spoiler. Repaired driver side power seat with new control cable. Replaced engine cooling fan and associated relays. Replaced Front tie rod ends. Replaced leaky fuel injector seals/ repaired leaking fuel rail. Replaced coolant/heater hose.
Items replaced before my ownership include:
Replaced timing belt and all associated accessories at 141,060 miles Air conditioner compressor has been replaced at some point.
Items that are still not functional or need attention: The gas gauge reads incorrectly - this repair is simply too much trouble in my opinion - I just reset the odometer every time and when it gets to 350 miles that means time for a fillup.
Occasionally when starting the starter or solenoid makes a racket. Well this has been happening the entire three years I owned it and I have never been stranded - so I have not looked further into this.
There is a small dent in the front passenger fender that could easily be popped out - again not something that I can do myself.
The headlamp washers - while these are a novelty they do not work well enough to repair - I have disconnected them but left the wipers in place.
The power steering system occasionally makes a funny noise, this is a case of "they all do that" because of a design flaw where the PS piping rattles under pressure. I have been working on isolating the pipes and may have this fixed by the time you read this.
It has some paint fading and issues from being out in the sun but I think it actually spent most of it"s life garaged as the seats are all in great condition.
Turn signal does not return on left hand turns.
The dash speakers were dry rotted and I am still looking for replacements but honestly the door speakers in each door work great and you don"t really need the dash ones to get good audio. I have a few of these that will come with the car.
Shifter is showing some age and some of the rubber has come off.
Other than the specific items I have covered above - everything on this darn thing still works as intended! Quite exceptional on a car of this age.
Reason for selling is that I have purchased another car to take it"s place - I will surely miss it but it"s time to let go .
My price is $2700.
Sale only in person and cash preferred.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
