Vehicle description
I have a 1996 S500 coupe. Rare car. Not as rare as a Bugatti Royale, but only 27,000 W140 coupes made from 1992-1999, so I doubt that you"ll see any on the street. I have had it for about 6 months and have only driven 3 times during that period. My wife and I took it out on Memorial Day for an 80 mile drive. It performed flawlessly. No funny noises, no smoke, no odors, no shakes. Just powerful and smooth. The tires probably have less than 1500 miles all around, a matching set. I bought it just after the last owner had it inspected. I have it insured through Hagerty classic insurance for 3000 miles a year at a little over 300.00 a year for the premium. The previous owner had it painted at some point. Not a show paint job, but a respectable driver quality. It looks good. I clay barred the paint and rubbed it out so it"s smooth and clean and has a nice shine to it. You will find the odd chip or slight scratch, but you have to be up close to notice. The lower cladding has road chips but they are low and not noticeable. When I bought it the bumpers had a lot of chipping so I had them professionally stripped and repainted. they look real good. No rust, nice clean, straight body. The only ding is on the passenger A pillar and I doubt you would eben see it if I didn"t mention it. The leather interior is very clean with some bolster wer on the driver"s seat and a tiny hole, maybe the size of a third of a dime. You really can"t see it in the seat picture. Passenger seat and back seats are nice. There are a couple hairline cracks in some of the wood trim but again, not really that noticeable. Headliner is nice as are the door panels and arm rests. I have the original tool kit and first aid kit. Everything is working, including the suction doors and the back up antennae. What isn"t working is the central lock system and the power mirrors. the passenger mirror does move a bit with the switch so I am thinking the switch is at fault but I have not diagnosed it. Sunroof works fine and the A/C is nice and cold. C/D player in trunk works fine as does the radio and the cassette player. Double pane glass on the side windows. The front and rear windshields are fine, with the front have a couple of rice sized chips, again not even noticeable. For being almost 5000 pounds, it moves well! The trans is extremely smooth. Temperature gauge reads right in the middle and the oil pressure is right on the mark. I love the car but it takes up my entire garage and as I said I have only taken it out 3 times in 6 months. My wife has persuaded me to keep it as she knows how much I love it, but I need my garage back. So I am testing the waters to see if there is any interest. If it doesn"t sell, then I will keep it and deal with having to cling to the walls to get around my garage! Please ask any questions, I am trying to be as transparent as I can. I have bought cars on Ebay before and 2 of them turned out to be disasters that had to be undone at great aggravation. I have the original owner"s books, too. I had someone ask. Thanks!
