You are bidding on a 1995 Mercedes SL320 convertible with 108k miles. This is a collector quality original car in exceptionally good condition. Arguably the best year and trim of the R129 SL cars. Black on black, original paintwork, no accidents, no bodywork, no touch ups! Original black leather interior in very good condition. Glass is perfect without any blemishes. Soft top is also in very good condition.
Mechanically the car is perfect and is what you"d expect from a low mileage well taken care of example. It drives pretty much as new car would. Absolutely no noises, no leaks, no smoke of any kind. And it is fast! Transmission shifts perfectly. Suspension is very tight. ABS and Traction Control work flawlessly. All electronics and electrics in the car work fine, including cold AC, with 2 exceptions (see below).
The only modification to the car is $2000 Merceli 20" staggered wheels with low profile tires. They fit very well with 1/2" hubcentric spacers without any rubbing issues. These wheels really compliment the car"s look and add to the handling without affecting the ride quality too much. I still have the 18" AMG Monoblock wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires the car came with, and these will be included with the sale IF the bidding goes over $5k. If the winning bid is below $5k, the buyer will have the option to buy the AMG wheels separately.
Issues: -The current wheels on the car could stand to be rebalanced, as there"s an occasional shimmy at around 60mph. - After changing the battery in the car the power soft top mechanism threw a fault code. It latched the hardtop on, but will not unlatch it. There" a special Mercedes diagnostic tool which allows to read and clear the soft top power mechanism codes. I have purchased this tool and it is included with the sale. I have not been able to figure out how to make the power top work, so it will be up to the new owner. All hydraulics worked just fine before. I think the microswitches need to be synced or something. Apparently a common problem with this model, as there"s tons of info on the internet. The top can still be operated manually, and the factory manual locking tool is included as well. The power Roll Bar feature works just fine. -The Cruise Control works intermittently. -The "O2 sensor heater circuit" fault code came up on me once. I had the code read and erased, if the code comes back, it"s a $50 O2 sensor part. It hasn"t come back yet. Please bid accordingly.
All in all an exceptional SL of collector quality that can be driven across the country today. It really should go to an enthusiast as it is a "keeper". I thought it was going to be me, but I like my W124 diesel even better, and don"t drive the SL much as a result.
