Vehicle description

Sadly, it’s time to find a new home for this immaculate, one-owner YJ. .preferably, someone who will love it as much as I have over the years, if not more. Bought this Jeep new as an Air Force 2LT on May 25 th , 1995 at Rick Hendrick Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep in Charleston, SC. In a few months, this beauty will be eligible for a Classic Car tag in the Great State of Texas. Rightfully so – this thing is truly a classic. The 4.0L inline 6 engine was rare enough in Wranglers in those days (relative to the underpowered 2.5L inline 4) because it was the same engine used in the Cherokee, which was a much more profitable vehicle for Jeep. As such, Jeep was incented to allocate more of the 4.0’s to the Cherokee production line vs. the Wrangler. The 4.0’s were hard enough to find that I signed the papers for mine while the vehicle was still wrapped in plastic and strapped to the car carrier. Got lucky with a model that had factory A/C installed. For better or worse, this Jeep has been very gently used; it’s never truly been off-road, and maybe has seen a total of 5 miles of 4-Wheel action its 25-year lifespan. Sad but true. A majority of its current 130,000 miles were logged making 1,300 round trips to Wilmington, DE to visit my girlfriend at the time. I made that trip *at least*once per month for four years, meaning at least 60,000 of those miles were on I-95 running at 2,000 RPM. In other words, the bombproof powertrain and drivetrain are barely broken in. The body and frame are amazingly rust-free – it’s the first thing anyone who knows Wranglers looks for, and it’s the one aspect of this Jeep that consistently raises eyebrows with Jeep Guys. You’ll have to look very hard to find a cleaner, unmodified, rust-free, low-ish mile specimen. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time and effort over the past two years restoring everything I’d changed (aesthetically – never made any mechanical/suspension mods) back to stock. Interior is completely new – seats, steering wheel, carpet, center console, roll bar covers, tonneau/bikini top, etc. Front and rear tube bumpers are new, as are the KC trail lights mounted on the front tube bumpers. Front shocks are new – rear are (gasp) original. I’ve purchased replacements, but haven’t installed them as of this writing. I’ll include them with the Jeep, of course. Tires are new as well – about 200 miles on them. Over the years, only two major-ish issues (i.e. those above and beyond regular maintenance) have cropped up: header gaskets were replaced in 2004, and the radiator gave up the ghost and was replaced in October of 2011. Otherwise, no mechanical issues whatsoever. As mentioned above, I’ve never modified anything relating to the powertrain, drive train, or suspension (outside of the front shocks) – everything is bone stock and in remarkable condition. Even the paint is original. What does this Jeep need? It *needs* very little. Rear shocks need to be replaced, as mentioned above. I might get that job done in the time between writing and posting this ad, as a matter of fact. Windshield is cracked, so I’ll get that repaired before turning the keys over to the new owner. The bottom windshield channel has some rust - easy enough to fix, although replacing the whole frame only cost between $140 and $250 (check Quadratec.com) Rear drum brakes have never been replaced, so while the vehicle has no braking issues, changing those out is probably prudent. Its got a wonky front left headlight bracket - needs two screws, so I"ll take care of that. Front right fender took a parking lot ding two decades ago. Otherwise, it’s in spectacular shape as-is. It’s good-to-go as a daily driver immediately, or a perfect platform to create an offroad classic that will truly be the envy of everyone on the trail. Want to see more photos? Just ask and I"ll get them up. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.
