1990 Mazda (Eunos) Cosmo 3-Rotor 20BTT.
I absolutely love this car. It"s a rare, unique ride; Especially to have it in the states. I have had the car for a little over a year. But, I would rather sell and use the money to build my FD. I"ve had the JDm experience now, it"s awesome, I just love FDs too much. This car is a attention grabber if you"re into that. Don"t plan on being able to stop at gas stations, drivethrus, or even stoplights without having to tell the story of the Cosmo. It"s a very quick car and will chirp tires at every gear shift.
From what I"ve read on forums, similar builds made around 400WHP but this particular car has *not* been dyno"d so I cannot confirm that. The paint is excellent except for two key marks on the passenger side. The interior is very clean and comfortable. The backseats are large enough for children.
PROS
- The engine is a C-Series 3 Rotor installed at a Mazda dealership in Japan for warranty work. When I bought the car, the engine had only 16,000 mi. on it. I have since added about 8,000 mi. with regular oil changes. C-series and D-series 20Bs are the most desirable as they have the fatter center housing.
- 17 in. Volks with new tires
- R33 Skyline GT-R Brake Conversion
- Bilstein adjustable shocks
- RE Amemiya REDOM ECU
- Greddy Profec Boost Controller with 7psi and 13psi settings
- RE Amemiya Titanium Exhuast
- Mazdaspeed LSD (Rare)
- Prosport Boost Gauge
- Shift kit
- New single DIN radio with Bluetooth
CONS
- Parts of the gauge cluster do not light up. .most of the time. It"s intermittent. I removed the cluster to inspect the board and the resistor that controls those specific gauges has clear burn spots on the circuit board. I just have not ordered the resistor yet.
- The shift kit allows for higher boost settings at the cost of rough shifting. It doesn"t slam into gear incredibly hard but it is noticeable. 5 speed swaps aren"t difficult on this car as a 13B 5 speed will bolt right up. If I keep the car, I"m going that route.
- There is a small exhaust leak at the headers that has been there since I bought the car. It is very difficult, impossible even to remove the headers with the engine in the car so I have not tried to fix it. Once the car gets to operating temp, you can"t hear it anymore. Much like the shifting, it"s not super loud but it is noticeable.
Overall this is an excellent example of a Cosmo in great shape. Despite it"s common electrical flaws, it runs and idles beautifully. The exhaust is deep, not loud. Expect a crowd anywhere you take this car!
The car has a clean GA Title. I bought this car from Japanese Classics in Richmond, VA. A very reputable dealer in JDM cars. You can view their sales ad on their website. .first Cosmo they sold. Excellent high res pics there.
The car doesn"t look much different now except for the stain in the passenger seat has been removed and the center console has an updated radio, boost controller, and boost gauge installed.
I am not desperate to sell so please keep the offers fair. I *might* possibly be interested in trades for cars of equal value.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions!
