Vehicle description
1989 Defender 110 V8 VIN: SALLDHMB8FA393207 The phenomenon that is Land Rover began in 1948 when the Series I was released with the advertising slogan "go anywhere"; Sixty eight years later, what began as a post war project to keep the Rover Car Company afloat has developed into a British motoring legend and over two-thirds of Land Rovers sold in the last half century are still in use today. Now known as the Defender, Land Rover"s iconic off-road vehicle is the benchmark for all modern four-wheel drives and is often described as the "hero" of the Land Rover range. The overwhelming majority of Defenders have 5 or 6 speed manual, 2.5-litre diesel engines. The vehicle comes in 3 different wheelbase options: 90, 110, or 130 (the numerical tag describes the number of inches between the front axle and the rear axle i.e. the Defender comes in 3 different lengths). Between 1987 and 1991 Defender was fitted with the 19J Turbo Diesel engine and then up to 1998 Land Rover fitted a TDi engine; between 1998 and 2006 they fitted a TD5 engine, and since 2007 Land Rover have fitted the TDCi (Puma) engine. A mighty all-aluminum V8 gasoline motor was coupled to Defender between 1983 and 1994. If you can manage the average 18mpg, then there is nothing that compares with the mighty roar of the Rover V8. The Defender is the archetypal off-road machine. Unlike many of the Defender"s competition, the vehicle is permanently engaged in four wheel drive. The Defender has class leading ground clearance and is a little wider than a small family hatchback. The engine is designed to deliver maximum low end grunt and to give you manual control over the differential lock and the gear range: although you"ll never win a sprint in a Defender, you will struggle to find something with better torque and traction. These design features make this Defender the class leading off-road machine. Mountains, rivers, rocks, sand, and winter blizzards are where this Defender feels most at home. Even if your Defender is destined to spend its days loyally ferrying the kids to school and back, please remember that you have a moral obligation to free the beast at least once a year: It will enjoy the experience almost as much as you. This Defender started out in Italy and was imported by European Heritage Imports into Miami. After seeing the rust free nature of this example, I purchased it and began replacing almost everything mechanical on it. Although not NAS by original build, I invested over $50,000 (receipts included) to replace all mechanical elements with NAS components and parts. The original 200TDI engine was replace with a rebuilt Disco 3.9 V8 and was converted from manual shift to automatic. EVERY mechanical/engine component, radiator, hoses, fuel tank, pumps, alternator, sensors, switches, drive train, and attachment has been replaced with new parts and converted to US specifications (i.e. AC unit and R12) – as I wanted this to be a reliable daily driver and it is. New wheels, tires, EMU coils, brakes, exhaust, Mantec, ARB, Warn, LEDs, Puma hood (complete list of all work is available) this is a head turner. There are many for sale where the seller focused on aesthetics but didn’t address the engine or rust areas. This one uniquely offers rust free solid and new mechanical from under the hood all the way to each wheel and gauge on the dashboard.
