Unique prototype Isdera Imperator Sbarro 1991
Geneva Show 2007 Sbarro for TV Show Anniversary
For 20 years, Franco Sbarro shares his know-how with young people in his different schools. For 20 years, Dominique Chapatte shares her passion for the automobile in one of the oldest French television shows, Turbo. A simple phone call between the two men resulted, to celebrate this common birthday, to one of the most beautiful achievements of the Espera students: the Turbo S20 roadster. The design began, as always with Espera, by specifications, then sketches, drawings, ideas. Little by little, the idea of the two-seater roadster was imposed. A model was made and the colors chosen (matte gray and bright red). Then remains the transition to the real model. To do this, the Espera students modified a tubular chassis from an Isdera from 1985, in which they placed, centrally, a Mercedes AMG V8 developing 350 hp and associated with a 5-speed manual gearbox. For the record, the front lights were taken from a Smart Coupe and the taillights come from a Fiat Seicento. In 4 months, the Turbo S20 was ready. A magnificent roadster that, of course, had all the honors in the Turbo show on M6. During the test, it appeared that the Turbo S20 was very healthy behavior despite the short time that Espera students had to design and manufacture it. The Picasso Cup had impressed me greatly. The Turbo S20 strikes even harder. Sbarro and his students did not have to respect a specification coming from a big manufacturer who often imposes that one recognizes the model of origin. There, everything started from a blank sheet. And the result is superb. A car that deserves a construction in small series. The Turbo S20 is also one of the last cars to leave Espera in Pontarlier, the structure having moved to Monbéliard with a slightly different training.
