Vehicle description
PHS documented and built at the Norwood Ohio plant. Shipped to Pinno Pontiac-Buick Inc. in Oxford PA on January 10, 1978. Purchased by Deborah Carroll Prigg on January 26, 1978 with 10 miles on the odometer at time of delivery. The new vehicle inspection was conducted on the same date and a copy of that inspection report is one of the pictures provided on this auction. This is an original Pontiac L78 400 motor, original TH350 transmission, original rear-end, original code 50 Solar Gold Trans Am. PHS provided window sticker is also one of the pictures. It tells you what it came with. You will notice there is no decal on the shaker hood - this is correct for the L78 motor in 1978. The original stowaway spare tire and jack are in the trunk. All the lights (including trunk and dome), turn signals, horn, gauges (except clock), new air conditioning, heater, defroster, wipers, etc. all work. Windows roll up and down, doors, hood and trunk close properly. It has had one re-paint about 20 years ago –all it needs is a paint job and it doesn’t need that if you plan to drive it. The car had 93,100 original miles on it when I got it in 2014. I’ve done the following: Engine completely rebuilt and I’ve provided a copy of the invoice showing everything done by Jerry Wilt, who is a Pontiac 400 motor specialist. The motor has about 400 miles on it since the rebuild. Transmission completely re-built and new torque convertor installed, rear-end opened up and serviced, new Ram Air exhaust manifolds and Ram Air exhaust system installed, New Holley 750 double pumper (I have the original carb completely rebuilt), all new body mounts, bushings, shocks, springs, brakes, etc. The standard vinyl Camel Tan interior is all new – carpets, seat covers, door panels, sail panels, headliner, rear package tray and console lid are all new from FBody Store. I have the original AC compressor but I put in a completely new A/C system that uses 134A coolant. I have the original exhaust manifolds that I replaced with new Ram Air exhaust manifolds. I put two new 6X9 speakers in the rear package tray when it was replaced. I installed a completely restored and refurbished 1978 Pontiac AM/FM 8 track even though it didn’t have that from the factory. I still have 8 track tapes and I play them. The trunk has a new mat and trunk lid has new torsion bar to keep it up when you open it. The bottom of the driver side post has a poorly done repair at the dash corner about 2 inches by 2 inches. The rest of the inside looks new because it is. It"s not a show car but would be with a paint job. It is a fantastic driver because everything works and most everything including the interior is new. It’s not a T-Top car which means it hasn’t leaked for 40 years and consequently it’s in great shape. It is kept in a climate controlled garage (picture attached) and driven monthly. Please call Dan at 863-370-9048, text or email. I either have the picture you want or I can take it. Most of the pictures I have provided in the auction are to document what I’ve put in the description. I can answer most questions immediately. A Solar Gold 78 TA is a rare find these days.
