Vehicle description
This 1974 Volkswagen Thing was refurbished approximately 13 years ago and it is powered by a replacement twin-port 1,600cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle, and work performed in preparation for the sale included a valve adjustment and an oil change and installation of a new marine quality CD/Tuner/Bluetooth player and speakers. It is finished in cream over black, and equipment includes a roll bar, a bikini top. This Type 181 is now offered with side curtains, side curtain storage bags, an owner’s handbook , and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The cream bodywork is accented by a black bikini top and features a fold-down windshield and removable doors. The sale includes side curtains, side curtain storage bags, and the stock soft top, the latter of which requires refurbishment.
Body-color steel wheels wear chrome VW-branded hubcaps. The brakes were reportedly overhauled in 2007, at which time the wheel cylinders and shocks were replaced. The cabin features refurbished seats upholstered in black vinyl. Equipment includes a roll bar, a fire extinguisher , and hardwood duckboards.
The body-color dashboard features a black top pad and houses a passenger-side storage area. Instrumentation consists of a 100-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge and all lights, blinkers and wipers work accordingly with no problems. The five-digit odometer shows 31k miles and a total of 3500 miles has been put on the car since the restoration in 2013.
The replacement 1,600cc flat-four is equipped with twin Solex carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Work performed approximately 13 years ago included the installation of a replacement clutch, transmission mount, fuel pump, engine cables, heat exchangers, and muffler.
Buyer will pay a $250.00 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours via PayPal with the balance due in 7 days or less with "cleared" cashiers check or a "posted" bank transfer.
