Hello fellow AMCers! For sale is a super rare, super awesome, 1973 401 4-speed Pierre Cardin Javelin. I bought this car back in 2019 with the intentions of making this car my "keeper", after owning and parting out multiple AMCs. But with a 1st child in a home that needs lots of work, I guess you can say my plans changed. The car sports AMX badges but no, it"s just a step below with all the goodies. It"s originally from Alabama, but I bought it from a fellow just north of Nashville. I brought it home and went to town on making it a drivable car. Dropped the trans and had it inspected. It needed a input shaft and syncros and was done $900 later. Also Installed a new flywheel and Centerforce clutch(clutch alone was $600). I figured "why stop here?" and bought a rebuilt factory Hurst shifter(with the reverse light fixture) so the entire trans and shifting system was fresh. The car was converted to a electric fuel pump when I picked it up. I prefer original equipment, so I decided to drop the tank, have it cleaned and reconditioned, and ran brand new fuel line from the tank to the new mechanical fuel pump installed. Form fitted line provided by Kennedy American. This Jav had headers when I picked it up. Of course the starter had to fail, so I had to drop the header on the rh side to pull the starter. Since I"m not nuts over headers, and also I happened to have factory hi flow 401 manifolds on the shelf, I ditched the headers and brought the car closer to original. This did mean that I was about a foot short of the exhaust, so I had the car towed to a fantastic muffler shop local to me, Muffler Man of Deltona, to connect the exhaust from the manifolds to the exhaust already present. I then came by to drive the car back to work, and that"s when, on the highway, I realized the front left caliper was locking up! It was really something when someone pulled out in front of me and I was left with the "fight or flight" choice. Instead of slamming on the brakes, I dumped the clutch and gave er" hell on the shoulder. Let me tell you. . It wasn"t just the 401 coming alive, it wasn"t just the trans response, and it wasn"t just the superior handling of the Jav that aided in darting in front of a car about to hit me without losing control(posi rear. ratio unknown). It was all the above! Of course got to give glory to the Good Lord for giving me knowledge on how to operate such a machine. But let me tell you, I had already made up my mind that I had to sell the car. That experience made it sooo much harder. . . Nonetheless, more about the Jav. . The interior is very nice considering age. There are a few blemishes on the Pierre Cardin seats, in which I tried to picture, but it takes a person looking for a problem to find them. The very rare 4-speed console plate has some lite pits, but very presentable, especially since they"re so hard to find. Original am radio is included but do not have the knobs. The car is very solid but does have rust issues that can"t be glossed over. The tail light section panel is toast. It will need to be replaced. Also lower quarters where patched in the past so they will need to be redone. Also, the left lower back glass corner has been filled before and will need to be addressed during a serious restoration. Lastly, there is a few rust spots on the lower corners of the door. Even though they close like a new car, they will need some rust repair. However, I do have a pair of rust free doors I"ll sell to the highest bidder for a fair price. Since I don"t have the build sheet, I don"t know if the ram air hood was factory or not, but what I will include is the ram air cleaner with a nice rubber seal. I do know that the spoiler is not, but it still looks great!. Well, there it is. All questions welcome. Be serious before bidding and don"t wait til after the auction to ask questions!
