Vehicle description
SN 9112310026 Engine # 320799 Trans # 6320066
For sale is a numbers matching “Olklappe” retaining all its original “S” components, including front spoiler, aluminum brake calipers, and front oil cooler. The car has always lived in dry weather environments, originally being delivered to California, followed by subsequent stays in Australia and Dubai. Consequently, it is a very solid, rust free example with no signs of previous accident damage. It also has a high quality, glass out re-spray to black from its original silver metallic.
Mechanically, the car benefits from an engine rebuild to 2.7 RS spec by S-Car-Go Racing, using 90 mm Mahle pistons, a correct RS #’d MFI pump, SSI’s and a Monty exhaust. At the same time, S-Car-Go also rebuilt the transmission and installed a new clutch, with all components now having 11k miles on them.
The interior is period correct and in excellent shape, retaining an original Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio, “S” gauges, and very attractive factory sport seats covered with a striking black watch tartan fabric. The targa top has recently been rebuilt and the dash is in excellent condition with no cracks. A WEVO shifter and 380 mm RS spec steering wheel are the only deviations from stock.
This car was sold by RM Sotheby’s at the 2013 Monterey sale. Search by SN number and it will pop up in a search.
Subsequent to the sale, much work has been done to the car by myself and the previous owner (who was the RM buyer), and includes some of the following; • Installation of new, correct OEM velour “S” interior carpet kit • Purchase of an original 1972 tool kit. Car already had a correct jack and spare Fuchs wheel • Installation of Kuehle aftermarket A/C system with factory under dash ventilation which actually keeps the cabin cold – a necessity in Dubai! • Repair of a very small rust area (approx. 2” long by ¼” wide) in one of the battery boxes • Installation of MSD ignition • Installation of a new master brake cylinder • Recent valve adjustment, new plugs and plug wires
In summary, if someone is looking for a numbers matching early “S” with sizzling performance via a highly reputable shop, coupled with a very presentable, solid rust free chassis, this car warrants serious attention and is a bargain at $139,900 obo. The car is located in Charlotte, NC and is for sale by a 30 year PCA member. Feel free to call Glenn at 704-962-9683 for further information. Additional photo links can be emailed upon request.
