Vehicle description
This 1972 Datsun 240Z was delivered new to Camino Datsun in Sunnyvale, California, and stayed with its original owner until being acquired by the selling dealer earlier this year. The car is finished in red over a white vinyl interior, and power comes from a numbers-matching 2.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Modifications include period dealer-installed American Racing wheels, driving lamps, and chrome mud flaps. This 240Z is offered with factory literature, shop manuals, service records, and a clean California title. The car is finished in Red (110), and the condition of the paint and trim is shown up close in the gallery below. Paintwork in 1979 reportedly included repair of a parking lot scrape in the passenger-side door as well as color correction on the back half of the car. Accessories include driving lamps mounted below the front bumper, chrome mud flaps, and an antenna. Four-spoke 14″ American Racing wheels were reportedly mounted by the dealer when the car was new, and the Roman-numeral vanity plate is said to have been ordered shortly thereafter. Michelin MXV tires date from prior to 2000 and should be replaced due to age. White vinyl was one of two interior trim colors available with red paint for the 1972 model year. Black carpet covers the floors, and the condition of the sheet metal underneath is shown in the gallery below. Equipment includes a period AM/FM radio and three aftermarket toggle switches mounted on the left side of the transmission tunnel. A stock steering wheel rests in front of factory instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer reads approximately 24k miles, and paperwork reportedly indicates it has has turned over once. Auxiliary gauges are located in the center of the dash. The 2.4-liter L24 inline-six was rated at 151 horsepower when new and is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. A stock air filter housing feeds dual SU-style sidedraft carburetors. Changed the oil and topped off the other fluids in April 2019. Additional photos are provided in the gallery below to show the condition of the chassis, suspension, drivetrain, and floors. The sale includes factory literature, service manuals, the original California ownership certificate, previous registration documents, and service records date from new.
