Vehicle description
Please read completely! ! This is a 1971 Corvette coupe (T-top) with 59,266 miles. It comes with the original factory build sheet (see picture) which confirms that it is equipped with automatic transmission, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, am/fm radio, factory audio alarm, and base engine. All those items are still in place. It is factory Ontario Orange with saddle interior. A majority of the paint is original, but tired.
It has the ORIGINAL engine with heads, intake, distributor, and exhaust manifolds. I don"t believe the engine has ever been opened up. It turns over freely by hand. (It is not running because fuel, water, electrical are not hooked up.) It also has the original Turbo-400 transmission. The interior is original with original jack and handle (rusty), all gauges, radio, set belts, and even the t-top bags are there. It has the very difficult to find ac-only ductwork under the dash. The seats and carpet are tired, the dash pads are nice, including the top one. ( no cracks, including by the radio speakers.) Door panels are driver quality. The seats need recovering- and the bottom of the driver seat is broken (from heavy-set previous owner). A replacement for that is included. I removed the front carpet because it had a mouse nest in it.
All body bonding strips are in place- it has never had a significant accident. The car was sold new by Ray Ridge Chevrolet, Trenton, MI, to Ray D. Grxxxx of Allen Park. The next history I know of the car is that it sold in Kendallville, IN, in 1998 to the owner from whom I bought it. Indiana title indicates 58,638 miles then as actual. This car still has original motor and turbo-400 trans. The AC system is intact and complete and original (housing, compressor, condensor, lines, drier, etc. In 2010, as previous owner began restoration, he discovered frame rot with a large mouse nest in the kickup area, so he sourced a rust-free frame and had the chassis completely redone. Frame was powder coated semi-gloss, and frame rails then painted semi-flat over the powder coast. The front suspension has new upper and lower a-arms and ball joints, springs, shocks, rotor shields, etc. All four calipers are new. The rear differential was rebuilt and the ratio changed from 3.08 to 3.73. Stub axle u-joints are new, as well as new trailing arms, spring, shocks, etc. Essentially the chassis was completely redone. All new brake lines and fuel lines (stainless) were installed at that time, but there are no brass junction blocks. While the chassis was being redone, the body was moved to the previous owner"s brother-in-law"s building. The body was handled poorly and the front end allowed to sag. Because of that there are minor cracks in each front fender. (see picture of one). The chrome is solid, straight, and serviceable as a driver, or great for rechroming. The brother-in-law became an ex-brother in law and a few pieces got "lost" in that process. ( see list at end) The po then placed the body on the frame with the motor and transmission stored in his garage, and stored the car for two years out in the woods so "it wouldn"t get stolen." The tires hold air, but they are weather-checked. They will get you home on a trailer. I bought the car and began the restoration process of cleaning things up, reinstalling the motor and trans, etc. Because of that outdoor storage in the woods, the frame go dirty and gathered some minor surface rust (see pics). I recently bought a 71 LT-1, and as a result am putting this car up for sale. The car does not run, because fuel, etc. is not hooked up. There is no exhaust beyond the manifolds. The radiator support has been replaced with a good, solid used one. The radiator is a like-new aluminum one. I have a new gas tank for the car. All four wheels are dated April 5, 1971. The rocker panel moldings are original with tabs at the bottom front. The headlight assemblies are complete and have the correct metal bezels, not plastic replacements. The wiper door mechanism is complete. All glass, including windshield, is original and in good shape. Window fit is excellent. We just got an inch+ of driving rain, and the floor is dry. This is a car with "good bones" for restoring. It doesn"t run, needs brakes finished up, and sorted out. But it"s almost complete, quite original, straight body, and redone chassis. When the po put the body back on the frame, he didn"t shim the body, so that still needs to be done. A new body mount kit with shims is included. The fit is actually pretty good right now, but the right door binds. The car is missing gas tank neck and straps, air cleaner, top ignition shield (rest of the shielding is there). exhaust from manifolds back, fan shroud, correct fan blade, spare tire lock, carpet. I will accept wire transfer or cash in person at my local bank. No money orders. Please look at the pictures- I did the best I could to show you the condition of the car within the 24-picture limit. I will work with you to accomodate shipping, but shipping is your responsibility and your expense.
