Vehicle description
It seems a whole lot of people wanted 67-72 short bed trucks and the first thing most of them do is shave all the chrome and trim off, paint one color throw a fancy grill on, drop them to the ground and there are a ton of them all day long. I love the vintage truck but wanted different. I have a long look accentuated with two stark colors that make it look even longer and I replaced or refurbished all the trim and chrome offered in the day (and was originally optioned on this truck). Its half lowered with a stance that looks right. The tires fill the wells properly with even gap front and rear. I found the truck unmolested in Bakersfield California and bought from the original owner. Virtually rust free, I replaced the right rocker panel and the radiator support. Otherwise this is all original metal. Frame off – nut and bolt restoration. Everything was stripped to bare metal and restored. I replaced every bushing, every bit of rubber, fuel lines, brake lines, fasteners and painted things that were not painted at the factory. New crate GM 4-bolt main short block 350 with aluminum heads 10:1 comp. professionally built by Martin High Performance in Sacramento California producing a tested 400 HP at the crank. Performance cam, roller rockers, HEI ignition, 650CFM electric choke Holley carburetor, air gap intake, coated headers, aluminum radiator with dual fans, custom accessories (too much to list). Now on synthetic oil and runs regular gas. 700R4 4 speed trans-built to handle the power. 1800-2000 stall converter. Original 12 bolt rear-end housing with all new 373 gears, posi, axles and bearings. New universals on straightened and balanced drive shaft. Power steering, 4 wheel power disk brakes (original type front, CPP conversion rear) drilled and slotted disks. Vintage air A/C, Optima sealed battery. Sport suspension including front and rear sway bars, springs and shocks, lowered 4” rear, 3” front with drop spindles. 20”x8.5” Torque Thrust wheels and BF Goodrich G-Force sport tires. Two-stage black and white paint in original pattern. All new trim, re-chromed steel, all new tinted glass. New grill set, lights, bezels, lenses, mirrors. Red oak bed boards with polished stainless slats. Interior is all new. Buckets are aftermarket but with original deluxe style covers professionally fitted to look stock. New matching deluxe style door panels, arm rests, carpet, tilt steering column, steering wheel, console, dash pad, more… Some new gauges including an 8 grand tach. Custom stereo with 7 speakers. The gas tank is 20 gallon Suburban and fitted between the frame rails and I built a custom filler behind the left tail light, completely hidden and drives people crazy trying to find it. The Build was finished in 2015 and although I continued to refine, it is a reliable runner in cold or hot weather. I have all receipts and a book of build photos that will go with the truck. A show winner, it has won: Two time 1rst place 70’s vehicle standing among Camaro’s, Mustangs and the like, best truck 4 times, Community Choice once and a few other lesser awards. It runs strong, smooth on the highway, sounds healthy, catches the eye everywhere I go with it.
