About the car 1969 Maxi Taxi II - B (title reads, "1969 Volkswagen Passenger Car")
Kit car built on a full size Volkswagen chassis. Original 4 dark/burnt orange seats with metal flake interior and rug. Restoration done in 2009, including chassis, front rear suspension, bumpers, brakes, tires, engine rebuilt, wiring.
Flat black exterior paint with gloss black flame on hood. Skeleton hand driver side mirror. Includes original side curtains, but those still need to be restored - we drive without them.
Some Kit Car Nuances: Manual turn signals (switch box), no fuel gauge, and maybe no driving in the rain without side curtains.
C ar looks and runs great! Only ~1,000 miles put on since 2002 when purchased (car shows, grocery store, friend"s house, etc).
A Bit of Backstory
In 1969, Bremen Motorsports, Inc (Bremen, IN) built three kit cars from stock 1969 VW chassis to market what they were selling: Maxi Taxi II Kit Cars. This is believed to be one of the three originally built sample cars. This was the car metal flake sample (one of the other cars was black; one blue).
My husband and I went to Bremen, IN with this car back in 2002 (when we bought it), and the gentleman said he remembered the car as a kid - the telltale sign that this was, in fact, the metal flake sample car was that the kits did not come with the one piece lanterns on the sides (they came with a 3pc lantern). He had great memories of the car as a kid.
Questions?
I"m in email every day, so please feel free to ask whatever you like.
We"ve owned the car for 17 years, and loved how it"s ADORED by young and old alike. The fact that it seats four is also great since you can bring your parents, kids, or friends along on a ride.
This is a fun car!
Good Luck!
