Vehicle description
For sale is my 1968 Pontiac GTO. This is a genuine 242 car. It looks brown, but is the factory Flambeau Burgundy Poly. ( I believe this car has been repainted, but they went back to the factory color from the body plate), with black interior. The paint is driver quality. I purchased it in 2010, and it has sat in storage ever since. Supposedly, the previous owner had it in storage, as well. Based on the overall condition, I"d say that is accurate. Unfortunately, almost immediately after I bought it, the engine went out. I have talked to numerous mechanics, and based on my description of the event, they all believe it is a spun main bearing. Prior to the engine going out, it ran like a crackhead on meth! (It was fast!) I was amazed by the low end torque and ability to get a scratch in all 4 gears! This car is in amazing shape. The day I bought it, a guy stopped me on the street and offered me his pick up truck, his friend (the passenger) and a BJ for the car! Seriously! Still a fun memory over that offer!
This is a nice survivor vehicle. It will require very little work to get it driving and running down the road.
Here"s the good: Genuine 242 car Matching numbers (PHS documented) (block VIN _287115435 [letter code is not visible due to lightly stamped letters/numbers] and 280395 WT) Original motor Original transmission Good rubber (Hoosiers) Survivor requiring very little to no body work (depending on your plans with the vehicle) Nice, clean interior, with no rips or tears in upholstery or carpet (the seat springs are really squeaky, though) Complete seatbelt set up in place, with both lap and shoulder strap as separate pieces Rear arm rests are present (though not installed) Clean trunk Original 14 in Pontiac Rally wheels with the "PMD" center caps (hard to find and expensive to replace if missing) Not a lot of miles on this. (speedometer mileage frozen at 52244.9, though we have no idea how much driving was done after that) This was supposedly the family patriarch"s vehicle and he quit driving it and put it in storage until he died and the family sold it to the dealer I purchased it from. Speedometer, tachometer, oil and gauge worked last time I drove it Dash lights work but are extremely dim All exterior lights work Vinyl top is in perfect condition
Here"s the bad: Motor is dead Gas tank leaks, but from the top and only if the vehicle gets tilted to being towed levels Trunk lock is punched The trunk seal is missing. (I found a small amount of water [maybe 4 ounces] in the trunk after I washed the car to take these pics. I don"t know if it was from the trunk seal or punched lock hole) Seat springs are extremely squeaky Driver side sun visor flops down during hard braking, acceleration or shifting Driver side view mirror is loose Rear arm rests not installed Minor dings (maybe 3 or 4) and scratches in paint, typical of car this age Someone painted the top 2 inches of the rear bumper black.
I will require a $500 deposit within 24 hours of auction win/buy it now purchase, and complete payment within 3 days unless the winner and I come to a different arrangement on the time issue (7 days maximum). I will not hold this vehicle for you. If you do not meet the requirements, I will put it back up for sale immediately at the end of the 3 days. I will sell this vehicle to anyone, anywhere, as it is on you to handle the shipping or pick up of this vehicle. If you are from a foreign country and want to fly/drive here to purchase this, I will sell it to you.
Thank you for looking and good luck!
