Vehicle description
1968 Firebird
Solid California car with very little rust! I have included LOTS of photos of areas that usually rust on these, as well as actual rust on Flickr ( https:/ www.flickr.com/photos/188037596@N03/? )
Original 6cyl OHC original engine (VERY Rare).
Powerglide Automatic on the column
Runs and drives very good! Drove it on I90 at 65 mph about 60 miles round trip a few months ago. Drove the Firebird about a mile away to take the exterior photos today. (All photos were just taken today except the one in my shop is about a year or so old, but looks same).
Body is in very good shape for a 1968. Original California Car (have Black Plates).
Also have a Pontiac Historical Services packet with original build sheet and data.
Car was originally a Greenish Gold with White interior. Someone switched to Black on black before me. .
When I bought the car, the seller said it sat inside a warehouse for 20+ years before he got it. It does look like a time capsule (including vintage Sig Erson Cam sticker). Has been inside at my shop most of the last 5 years.
Floors are solid (pass rear was patched with fiberglass but I have a replacement panel).
Bottom of front fenders have some rust starting, and trunk floor has typical GM rust pinholes. . otherwise car is very clean. Back window looks good and car does not leak in the rain.
Paint is a 20 footer. Shines up OK and is all one color, no chunks missing or major scratches. . just old and not high quality.
I have done a lot of work to the car while I"ve owned it. Mechanical stuff, put an original radio back in, rekeyed the doors, trunk, ignition to all match. Also swapped to original style 15" Rallye II wheels with BFG"s, etc. Started doing the interior. Headliner is mostly in, seats recovered in stock upholstery, dash looks really good (pad is cracked). I have new door panels, carpet and pretty much everything else you need to finish the interior.LOTS of new parts. (In fact, I have new screw kits from Classic Industries as well as new weatherstrips). INTERIOR IS STILL OUT OF THE CAR AND NEEDS FINISHED.
Also have new wheel arch trim, some emblems, etc.
Originally had plans to put a v8 4 speed in as well as disc brakes. Sadly, too many projects, too little time. .
Car runs good as is, and have had it down at XXX Burger and Goodguys, but brakes are 4 wheel drum and not really safe in 2020 traffic. . Car is current YOM registration with 1968 Wa plates and has insurance.
