Other Makes. Very rare aluminum bodied coupe. This car featured a Canadian 308 Chrysler poly spherical combustion chambered-engine and push button alloy case 727 automatic transmission. My engine is correct but I do not believe it is the original. It turns easily but certainly should be rebuilt. These cars were extremely expensive when new - competing with Rolls Royce and Bentley in cost. Today they command very high prices - particularly in England so a restoration certainly would be worthwhile. I have decided to sell to spend my time on my ISO Rivolta S4.
The car is almost complete, missing the grill, exhaust, and a few minor parts. All glass is present and in very good condition, All chrome is present; interior pieces, dash gauges, five original 16" wheels, etc. The first five pictures show the car as when I purchased it. If you search on the Internet under Bristol 409 project, you can learn more about this specific car. There also are pictures of a similar 408 being restored.
The car now is completely disassembled and ready for restoration. The main steel perimeter chassis is in good condition. The steel sheet metal attached to the chassis will need to be replaced in the rear and patched in the front. The flat floor panels have been removed. All of this steel should be fabricated without significant difficulty since most parts can be produced using a simple brake. Rear wheel wells could be replaced with off the shelf parts available on the internet. Also, the British Bristol club has purchased the assets of the Bristol company and are a good source for parts. There are several very active clubs and online forums that also can provide assistance with the rebuild. The body is in fair condition having been lightly hit in the rear and not too well repaired. Being aluminum, it can be easily reshaped as necessary. I have stripped it to bare aluminum everywhere except the rood that still is attached to the body.
I am selling this for far less than the value of the parts in the hope someone will take on this project either as an authentic restoration or as a restomod with more powerful engine.
I have numerous boxes of parts that could be loaded into the body for moving the car. It is not a roller but I have it mounted on car dollies so it can easily be loaded onto a trailer. I can place the engine on a pallet and load with my tractor.
I am relisting this because a previous buyer sent me a substantial deposit and then never responded to my phone calls or emails). Pickup must be within 3 weeks of close of auction unless other arrangements have been agreed to. I will be glad to help with shipping.
