Shelby. Here is an amazing Cobra! Originally the "show chassis" brought out for Carroll"s board meeting as an example. First turned into a t-bucket with California Registration, then reconfigured to an amazing cobra. Hand made aluminum body, no expense spared on this build. It is in the Seattle area, it is almost as clean underneath as on top! Not a fingerprint on this car. Very well cared-for and always garaged in seller"s shop. Exceptional build and care. . . . . This 1964 AC Cobra wasoriginally built as a show chassis for Shelby American in order to showcase themodel’s underpinnings. It was sent in 1965 to Cal Automotive, a Shelbysubcontractor, where a Ford T-bucket body was installed. The car was thenregistered for street use, and later in the mid-1990s was fitted with ahand-formed aluminum Cobra body by Kimmins Custom Fabrication of Lake HavasuCity, Arizona. After being raced in the late-1990s, it received a refresh andwas assigned chassis number COB5998. The current owner acquired the car in 2011and subsequently commissioned Cobra Automotive of Wallingford, Connecticut toperform a mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment, which included rebuilding theWeber-carbureted289ci V8. A T-10 four-speed manual transmission was alsoinstalled along with a Tilton racing clutch, Hurst Super Shifter, Girlingmaster cylinder, Penske racing shocks, and more. The car was invited to andparticipated in the 50th annual Cobra Reunion, held in Monterey, California in2013. It is listed in the SAAC Registry as outlined below and is titled as a1964 Ford, though in race configuration would be difficult to drive on thestreet. The car is now offered with spare parts, refurbishmentdocumentation, period photos, historical paperwork, and a clean Californiatitle. Visited this last Friday 7/2, so clean it"s just amazing. The race-prepped 289ci V8 was rebuilt by CurtVogt’s Cobra Automotive in 2012 using a magnafluxed and micro polishedcrankshaft, a steel harmonic balancer, a mechanical lifter set with 0.012″cam-facing oiling holes, performance pistons and rings, new connecting rods, aMelling Racing oil pump, and bronze freeze plugs. The rotating assembly wasbalanced and the four Weber twin-throat carburetors were rebuilt. An aluminumradiator is fitted and features an electric cooling fan and an aluminumoverflow tank. The engine was reportedly dyno tuned running 112 octane racingfuel and is mated to a T-10 four-speed manual gearbox with a Tilton 7 ¼” double-discracing clutch and Jerico disc pack. The SAAC Registry entry recounts the history ofthe chassis up to the point when it was fitted with Cobra bodywork.
