VERY COOL1958 CHEVROLET YEOMAN WAGON It has a 350 4-bolt engine with a 2-brl carburetor. Matched to a 2-speed Powerglide. WAGON RUNS GOOD AND DRIVES STRAIGHT DOWN THEROAD! ! ! Chevrolet aptly named its entry-level 1958 station wagon seriesYeoman, knowing that it was built to be a rugged, no-frills workhorse forfarmers, outdoorsmen and tradesmen. Playing off the U.S. Navy"s rank of yeoman(an enlisted person whose main duties are clerical), the copy in the dealerbrochure boasted, "You can swab this deck!" Thanks to its vinylupholstery, rubber floor mat and linoleum platform in the cargo area, Chevroletsaid, its interior was completely washable with water and a sponge. As you mayimagine, its appearance was somewhat austere. Though the multi-toning addedsome flash, the absence of door armrests still reminded the owner of itsentry-level standing in Chevrolet"s model lines. This six-passenger stationwagon was available as a two-door at $2,520 or four-door at $2,574. The 1100series was equipped with the straight-six-cylinder engine and the 1200 seriesthe 283-cu.in. V-8. Completely revamped for the 1958 model year, the lower, longer,wider Chevrolet featured quad headlamps, a larger panoramic windshield and"sculptured" body styling. The anodized aluminum grille and thebumper were also new. A "V" on the hood and tailgate denoted a V-8under the hood. This is an older restoration that is showingsigns of age. Driver quality paint jobthat could come back to life some with a good water sand and buffing. The is some bubbling going on in a few areasbut no serious rust through that I can tell. Paint is dull in places and has chips, scratches and blemishes. The floors were repaired a long time ago and will need some attentiontoo. The good part is the wagon still exists andis a nice car to ride around in like it is for now. The motor runs good and trans shiftssmoothly. It has power front disc brakesand also has the set up for power steering, pump and lines needinstalling. It has a really good soundto it. Motor does not smoke or make noise. The valve covers are leaking some. The rear upper hatch will not latch close. Drivers’ door and drivers passenger door bothhave cracked glass. The rest of theglass is still pretty good.
