Here is a seldom seen 1956 Meteor Rideau Victoria 2 dr hardtop. Similar to a Ford Fairlane hardtop but built by Ford of Canada. Low production, one of 2110 built and very few left now. Numbers are correct on this car for a Mandarin Orange/Raven Black/Colonial White original color combination, with black/white factory interior and dash. I"ve included a photo of a Meteor Crown Vic at the end of the pics but it would be close to the look I was going to achieve with this car. This is an old school hot rod built in the early 80s and then having the drivetrain updated to a built 302 and 5 speed manual trans out of a Mustang 5.0 L. The body is intact but there are signs of filler and old work that would need to be redone. The previous owner started to do bodywork and he removed the RH rocker panel for replacement. The RH door fits too tight to the quarter panel so I was going to get in there and see if I can get some adjustment to correct that. Some work was done on the LH front fender around the grille opening to achieve a different look from stock. The rest of the body is presentable, there is some filler coming out where the door handle was blanked out on the passenger side.
Trunk floors, floor pans and quarters are intact, but I would guess that sandblasting might expose some areas needing patching on a car of this age. I would also presume rust repair and old bodywork would have to be redone in places and also some body mounts would need correction. Doors are decent as are the fenders and hood. Has very old 2 stage paint work and the clear is peeling in places but I was going to strip it down and redo all the bodywork to original colors. Windshield needs to be replaced. All the correct side trim is on this car. For those who have worked on these Meteors, you"ll know how difficult this stuff is to find.
The previous owner did an excellent job of installing a fresh 302/5 speed with rack and pinion steering, headers. Running a 4 bbl carb with electronic ignition. There are new wheels and tires on the car and I believe the brakes were redone as well. I think the rear wheels are too wide for the factory wheel wells so they would need to be changed. Runs very strong but the front rack needs to be aligned and set up. Interior present but i would redo it. I was going to source out original door panels and seats, then redo in factory style. Decent bumpers, 1960 Dodge tail lights that so many customizers used back in the day. The tube grille was removed but I do have a factory Meteor grille that is restoreable to go with if need be.
This is a project that could be built back to stock or continue on as a mild custom. One thing for certain, you would likely be the only one pulling into your local cruise in or show in one of these cars in any format. It has a lot of potential.
