Vehicle description
Vehicle Details 1956 Ford Thunderbird, 312, standard transmission w/overdrive/both tops/AC/78K Actual miles!50,000/78,700/112,375 NADA Value with optionsThis Thunderbird is a mechanically sound, cosmetically presentable, and comfortable driving car with many rare and valuable options and a lot of upside potential. This is a 78K ACTUAL mile car (verified by Virginia title) that has been lovingly maintained through its ownership history. Based on my knowledge of this car, it has been painted and undergone maintenance or overhaul of some parts, but basically this car is an unrestored, unmolested survivor that has always been kept in roadworthy condition. This car has the 312 engine option, desirable 3-speed standard with overdrive transmission and both tops. Exterior: The tires are barely worn, radial whitewalls, about 8 years old, with Kelsey Hayes spokes in good condition. The car also has a 8 year old, functional spare tire and what appears to be the original jacking equipment. The car has both tops, with a new soft top about 6 years ago, window plastic is as new. Original color was extremely rare Navajo grey with a black soft and hardtop, but car was painted Skylark Blue enamel early in its history, with basecoat clearcoat in the same color re-applied in the mid 90’s. The soft and hardtop were changed to white, which looks nice with the whitewalls and blue paint. Paint is shiny and good from about 10 feet, but some flaws are visible if looking closely. None of the flaws appears to be rust-related, but they appear to be from issues developing in the original 1956 paint beneath the surface. I believe the car has always been garaged, but it definitely has for the last 15 years (during my ownership) and climate controlled. Chrome is in good condition and stainless is in a fair condition of polish.Interior: The seat upholstery may be original, or could have been restored a long time ago. However, it is very nice looking and shows well. The dash pad and door panels are very nice. The windows function as they should and the glass is in good condition. The gauges and lenses were restored or replaced and function properly, except the clock doesn’t work. The lights, heat, air, horn and wipers all work. The radio has a connection in the glove box for playing music from an Ipod. The car has aftermarket seat belts installed.Mechanicals: Several years ago, I replaced the front coil springs on the car because it was obvious that the originals were weak. The front brake cylinders and some of the hoses were replaced due to leaking. I am no expert on matching-number Thunderbird engine parts, but the engine and carburetor appear to be correct vintage for the car. The battery is a period correct 12 volt battery. The steering is tight and the car shifts well, the car brakes well and does not pull, and the overdrive works as it should. The car is really pleasant to drive. The heat and air conditioner work, but it is always best on T-birds to use the AC while you are going down the road to avoid overheating. Reason for selling: Even though this is probably one of the best driving antique cars I own, I have become interested in 30’s Packards and would like to make some room in the garage (have to, they’re so big). This car is nice as it is, but has a valuable set of options and a high potential value if properly restored. This is a drivable investment with a high upside. Images Download the Motors app
