Badel Spyder: Hand built aluminium body on a steel tubular frame with 1954 VW Beetle mechanicals. Modelled after the hand built Porsche specials of the 1950"s. Registered in Florida as a 1954 Beetle on an antique plate. Highlights: Body: Hand formed, welded and finished in Colombia, South America by Juan Badel. Body is a single piece at the is easily removed from the chassis for major mechanical work. There is a small inspection panel in the drivers foot well for fluid top up.Body is left in a raw state and taking on a nice patina. Rear engine cover hinges on the chassis. There are internal panels forming the wheel wells. Porsche 550 replica plastic windscreen. Porsche 356GT rear view mirror on a tripod. Removable passenger cover on Dzus fasteners. Vinyl stickers in place (easily removable). Chassis: Constructed by Juan Badel and constructed of square and round cross section steel tubing and is basically a two seater Formula VEE chassis. It utilises the 1954 Beetle front axle beam and rear floating single coil over shock system (based on a fully adjustable Penske remote reservoir shock). The engine and gear box are rigid mounted to the chassis. Hydraulic clutch and brake pedal assembly. Rack and pinion steering (quick rack). Engine: Mid-mounted VW 1600cc twin port (sourced from the 1954 Beetle but not the original). New Empi carburetors, fuel filter, ignition parts and starter motor. Powder coated engine tin. Custom 2 in 1 exhaust. Engine runs fine and gives the light car a good turn of acceleration. 8 gallon fuel tank, foam filled, with Porsche 356 GT fuel cap. Gearbox: VW 4 speed, standard (sourced from a 1954 Beetle but not the original) flipped ring gear. Cable operated remote gear change. New short drive shafts and custom axle tubes. Brakes: 5x130 front disc brakes, custom 5x130 rear drums on short axle tubes. Wheels: Porsche 15" space saver wheels (944) with new Toyo vintage look, high profile tires. Interior: 2 seats, both aluminium (no upholstery), drivers old school racing 5 point harness. Passenger 4 point seat belt (new). Wood rimmed quick release steering wheel. Handbrake on drivers left side. Electrical: Jegs Universal wiring kit, electric fuel pump, MSD 6AL ignition, MSD Blaster coil, Dry cell battery, Motogadget tachometer with speedometer/odometer function with read out for oil pressue, oil temperature, voltage etc. VW front headlight assembly with wire light guards with integeral indicator lamps. Porsche 550 replica rear lights, modified for 3 circuits (rear lights, indicators and brakes). Push button start, fuel pump on off. C ar runs and drives like a go kart!
