. 1950 Mercury Traditional Custom. Full frame off build by Matt Townsend of Townsend Customs in Riverside California. There is a link to Matt documenting most of the build with pics on The HAMB: https:/ www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1950-mercury-hardtop-build.936839/ Car history: Car was bought in July 2011 and finished in June of 2014 and has 3,000 miles since total frame off build. I have a clear Virginia title. Mercury was always a California car and was last driven in the early 80"s. Car was stored in a warehouse for over 30 years before I bought it. About a year into the build I asked Matt to put on 1951 mercury quarters. . some think its a 1951 merc with a 50 back glass but it is in fact a 1950 mercury. FRAME/CHASIS: Drop spindles up front and lower blocks in the rear with air shocks on a stock frame. Body removed from frame, frame was stripped and powder coated PS with a F100 steering box PB with disc up front and drum on rear. Based on mid 90’s Econoline Van New gas tank, fuel lines, brake lines Stock steel 50 merc rims powder coated black with bullets. Diamondback wide white wall tires New body mounts, nuts and bolts DRIVETRAIN: ZZ4 crate 350….360 hp TURN KEY PACKAGE (Bought from Crate Engine Depot) complete from carb to pan and included new A/C compressor Doug headers and Glasspack exhaust 700R automatic overdrive non computer transmission which was rebuilt Ford 9 inch that was totally rebuilt with new 3rd member 3.55 gears and driveshaft U joints. Be Cool aluminum radiator with 2 electric fans Car was completely rewired PAINT/BODY: Black glasurit paint with glasurit clear coat Hardtop Chop: 4 inches in the front and 4 1/2 in the rear. All stainless was custom made by Matt, windows roll down smooth, vent windows work as they should and the back side glass slides out All new glass, weather-stripping, felts etc Stock chrome door handles, bumpers re chromed Custom Barris style front grill made by Matt. Only rust was in the trunk, it was minimal about 4 inches in diameter. INTERIOR: Stock Bone white interior tuck and roll with marine vinyl. Stock steering wheel was restored and steering column with Auto shift Original gauges where restored, calibrated with new facing (Gas Gauge doesn’t read correctly but all others work correctly and Clock doesn’t work) A/C is vintage air and Matt built the custom vents and housing it matches Car has all the mercury badging inside along with the sill plates. . . it is a stock looking interior down to the arm rests Radio is not hooked up. It has Kicker speakers and amp to play music with an Iphone or other similar devices
