Vehicle description
Rare 1947 Mercury Woody Wagon, Nut, Bolt, Chassis Off Restoration
Everything about this 1947 Mercury Woody Wagon is remarkable. A Colorado car where it spent most of its life, was moved to Florida and after a lengthy restoration, has made it into one of the most attractive Woodies on the market today. Most of the restoration centered on keeping the car original. One exception was the addition of a new drive-train, 302 Motor, Automatic Over-Drive Transmission, 8 inch Rear End (325 gears) and a Mustang II front end with over-sized disc brakes.
You can imagine how expensive the professional restoration was, given that the wood is all-new, replaced at a cost of almost $30,000. Then there was fitting, finishing, and final assembly, making this car better than new in almost every way. The Aquarius Blue paint is a great contrast to the vivid natural wood colors, with the steel staying in the background to let the wood be featured. The post-war Mercury`s were good-looking cars with restrained styling and a bit more flash than their Ford counterparts. They"re arguably the best-driving wagons ever built. The bodywork was refinished to excellent professional standards, with good fit throughout and a vinyl roof that looks new. All the chrome on the car was restored, including many rare, hard to find original accessories. The wheels, whitewall tires and vintage hub caps add to the classic looks.
The new tan all leather interior still features all three rows of seats, a somewhat rare find on older wagons. All the seats were reupholstered using correct materials, including expert finish of the dashboard and trim, making it match nicely with the wood interior. Square weave carpeting throughout enhances the interior. Correct stainless screws, original hardware, and a beautifully re-cast steering wheel with Ididit column make this a very comfortable interior. The Classic Instrument analog style gauges were used in the restoration. The car features Vintage Air AC and Heat and there"s an under dash CD player for listening comfort. All four doors and tail-gate fit well and work correctly.
Going down the road you have an original 1947 Mercury Woody Classic. The combination of the new 302 drive-train, instrumentation and front end, makes this car reliable, dependable and safe.
It rides, drives and performs like a "new" car.
