Vehicle description
1940 Willys Coupe pro-street style hot rod was built in 1991 by Tommy Jenkins. I"m the fourth owner and have owned the car since 2009.
The engine is a 427 cubic inch Big Block Chevy with 6:71 Don Hampton blower, driven 1:1 with dual Predator 930cfm variable venturi carbs.
The chassis was built by Mike Weeks and features rectangular boxed side rails with tubular bracing and full roll cage.
Front suspension is by adjustable torsion bar with "78 Volare components and Mustang II rack & pinion steering.
Rear suspension is 4-link coil-over with 9" Ford 3.00 Detroit locker and 31 spline Strange axles, according to notes by the 2nd owner, but I have not verified the gear ratio or axle size.
Fiberglass body is by Willys Works with suicide doors (including safety locking pins; see photo) and metal flake candy burgundy paint. This is the original paint job so it looks great from a distance but there are many small chips in places. I"ve included a couple pictures showing some of these flaws but I can"t show all of them. The very subtle pin striping is by Larry Hook of Rhode Island.
Wheelbase is 102 inches, length about 168 inches (14 feet), weight is 3200 lbs with 1/4 tank showing with 1700 lbs on the front and 1500 lbs on the rear for a 53% front, 47% rear weight distribution.
Most of the Autometer gauges are liquid filled. The steering column is "78 Corvette tilt and telescopic. The seats are Caddy Cimarron.
Weld Wheels 15x5 front, 15x14 rear.
Cooling is with Griffin aluminum front radiator and Chevette brass radiator in the rear with fans on each controlled by separate switches.
Power windows and windshield wiper kit by Specialty Power Windows of Georgia. The ground wires to the power windows should be redone as the windows are slow to operate but work just fine when powered directly from a 12V battery. The passenger window has a small crack at the top, not shown in the pictures.
The headers were done by Mike Weeks but have been repaired by a local welding shop to close up the pin holes that came from previous owners having lived in snow country.
I"ve tried to point out all the things on the car that I would work on to improve it. I"m selling it because I"ve gotten to the point where it"s hard for me to work on it. It needs a new owner to bring it back to its former glory! This car won at a Good Guys event back in New York after it was first built and it has still won several awards for me at local car shows.
If I"ve missed anything it"s not intentional. The car is being sold as is and is not returnable. Please ask any questions before the auction ends (not at the last minute!). Don"t bid on this car unless you intend to complete the purchase!
