Vehicle description
VERY RARE 1939 Austin 8 Tourer Pre-War 4 Seater Touring Left Hand Drive
Only 4 known to exist! I repeat: Left Hand Drive which makes it perfect for the US.
This was the first production year for the Austin 8. When England entered World War II in 1939, civilian production ceased. A8s were manufactured only for military use. These cars had extremely hard war-time use and very few survived (fewer than 55 Military Tourer"s and 45 Civilian RHD Models). When civilian production of the A8 resumed after the war, only closed sedans were offered, making the open tourer an extremely rare automobile. According to the Austin 8 Registry, only approximately 4 Left Hand Drive cars exist.
THIS IS A SUPER RARE COLLECTABLE CONVERTIBLE. AS VISABLE IN THE PICTURES, THE CAR IS VERY PRESENTABLE AS-IS or COULD BE FURTHER RESTORED. IT IS SOLID. There are some almost-invisible rust issues along the bottoms of the side panels above the running boards but that’s all.
As was the style in Europe, the car is small, about the size of the modern Austin Mini. As such it is an eye catcher and a fun car to toodle around in. The old-fashioned wig-wag directional signals are a kick!
Since the photos were taken I have installed New Old Stock bumpers, a new fuel pump, new fuel lines, a new battery, new water pump, new running boards, and miscellaneous trim pieces. I also had the inside of the gas tank professionally cleaned and sealed.
The car runs well, solid and clean. If you are interested, I can send you a video of the car in operation as well as more photos. The top and side curtains are excellent. The interior is clean and presentable.
Parts are readily available as the Austins were made for many years, just not this specific model.
A NON REFUNDABLE $500 DEPOSIT IS DUE THROUGH PAYPAL IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS. Final payment is due within 3 days of the end of the auction. Payment may be made in either of the following ways. 1. Electronic bank-to-bank funds transfer (preferred). 2. Cash in person. 3. Certified bank check. In this case, the car will not be released until funds are cleared.
The car is located in California zip code 94946.
International buyers are approved but buyer will be responsible for any shipping, duties, fees, etc. to get the car to your desired location.
Please note that this item is for sale locally and I reserve the right to terminate the listing.
